With Valentine’s Day only weeks away, I thought it would be fun to scout around and search out Denver’s most delicious desserts. To help me with this I’ve asked my foodie friend, Biker Jim Pittenger, of Biker Jim’s Gourmet Dogs,  to give me some suggestions. Here’s what we’ve come up with!

"Cake & Shake" at D Bar Desserts

D Bar Desserts at 1475 E 17th Avenue in Denver is a destination dessert dining at its best. With a focus on desserts, they’re out of this world, but our favorite has to be the three-layer cake with manjari frosting that comes with a vanilla or chocolate milk shake or malt. OMG! And what great atmosphere and service! Owners Lisa Bailey and Keegan Gerhard have created a culinary sanctuary on 17th Street as the “aspire to inspire.” Bravo! Banana Creme Brulee at Root Down

At Root Down, 1600 W 33rd Avenue, they pride themselves on addressing the “omnivore’s dilemma,” by creating a dining spot where all dietary needs can be accommodated, including vegetarian, vegan, raw and gluten-free. The miracle here is this hasn’t stopped them from making some of the best food in town. Our favoriet dessert was the Banana “Creme Brulee” Pie with a Peanut Butter-Chocoate Cookie Crust & Sweet Whipped Sour Cream. Yum and double Yum! Phone: 303.993.4200. www.rootdowndenver.com

Pineapple Upside-down Cake at Street Kitchen Asian Bistro

Street Kitchen Asian Bistro at 10111 Inverness Main Street, (off the Dry Creek exit and a little east) Englewood, is brand new and we wouldn’t have thought of it for our short list but we happened to stop in there and WOW! The sparkling new eatery captures the flavorful cuisine of Asian street foods and Chef/Owner Mary Nguyen uses authentic recipes from Malaysia, China, Japan, Vietnam and Thailand. Our favorite dessert was the Pineapple Upside Down Cake with crème fresh ice cream with salted caramel sauce and powdered sugar and mint leaf. Phone: 303.799.9800.
